Pooya Bahmanikia, M.Psy., is a compassionate Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) committed to supporting individuals as they navigate life’s challenges and mental health concerns. He holds a Master of Psychology degree from the Adler Professional Graduate School, specializing in Clinical and Counselling Psychology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with highest distinction from York University. In addition to his psychotherapy qualifications, Pooya obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree, where he honed analytical and problem-solving skills that now enhance his structured and thoughtful therapeutic approach.
Pooya further enhanced his expertise by obtaining a Certificate in Multi-Modality Psychotherapy from Adler Professional Graduate School, specializing in Trauma-Informed Care, Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). He also completed three levels of Adlerian Therapy training at the Piaget Institute in Toronto, covering topics such as Adlerian psychology and psychotherapy, early recollections, democratic parenting, Adlerian child and adolescent psychopathology, Adlerian couple therapy, and lifestyle analysis and assessment.
With a diverse professional background, Pooya has provided therapeutic support in various settings. He offers a compassionate and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their personal challenges and foster growth.
His therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, Person-Centered Therapy, and Adlerian Therapy. Pooya tailors his methods to meet the unique needs of each client, addressing concerns like anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, relationship issues, and life transitions.
In his work with trauma survivors, he emphasizes creating a safe environment where clients can process past experiences and build resilience. Utilizing trauma-informed practices, Pooya supports healing and empowerment. With a passion for cultural understanding, he is attuned to the experiences of individuals from diverse backgrounds and recognizes the impact of culture, identity, and marginalization on mental health.
