A little bit more about Hypnotherapy…
A psychotherapist who is also a certified hypnotherapist combines traditional psychotherapy with hypnotherapy, utilizing the trance state to enhance therapeutic outcomes. Unlike regular psychotherapy, which primarily involves conscious dialogue and cognitive techniques, hypnotherapy involves guiding the client into a deeply relaxed and focused state, or trance, where they are more receptive to suggestions and can access subconscious thoughts and memories. This state allows the therapist to address issues more directly and effectively by providing tailored suggestions and exploring underlying subconscious conflicts, facilitating deeper insights and emotional healing that may not be as easily accessible through conventional psychotherapeutic methods alone.

Everyone needs help now and then, it is why we live in societies!

Most psychological problems begin when a person cannot cope with a situation or is not coping well. This usually happens because they have never been exposed to that type of situation or there is just too much of it. That is where I come into the picture…

Having earned my master’s degree in counselling psychology in 2004, I began working as a counsellor and psychometrist working with MVA victims, helping to assess and then to treat those clients, returning them to full function. I say full function because it is not possible to turn back the clock.

I started life in a family of tradespeople, and not surprisingly, I joined the trades and worked as a technician and did construction, taking breaks while I attended university. Then I developed repetitive motion disorder and took a hard look at the bodies of my family, as well as their aches and pains, and decided to leave those trades I enjoyed so much and chose to do my master’s in counselling psychology.

I have been an equestrian for most of my life and fell from a horse, breaking my hip. When I got back to riding, I realized I would never be able to ride like I did before because I literally lost a few muscles from the accident as well as a bunch of nerves. I was working on my master’s in applied neuroscience at the time, so made a choice between what was more important and beneficial for me, choosing my degree.

We cannot go backwards and should not try. Instead, we can move on to bigger and better things. If you don’t like lemonade, try a lemon meringue pie. The point is, there are options available if we know what they are, are willing to do the work, and have the help. Today I teach part-time, do a little renovation work, am a scuba instructor and counsellor. I could be resentful at having to change my life over and over again; instead, I used those events to change my direction and keep on enjoying, or maybe even enjoying my life more!
