John-Paul Austring

Registered Social Worker, Registered Psychotherapist

John-Paul Austring is a Registered Psychotherapist and a Registered Social Worker who draws from his extensive education in psychology and social work. He specializes in working with clients who struggle with Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, motivation, and relational conflict. His approach is highly directive and emphasizes clarity, structure, and accountability, while remaining compassionate, open-minded, and responsive to each client’s unique strengths and challenges.

John-Paul provides therapy and coaching through an integrated approach that primarily draws from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), in addition to Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution-Focused, and Dialectic-Behavioural Therapy (DBT). With over 12 years of professional experience, combined with his own lived experiences of overcoming serious life challenges, John-Paul offers practical, compassionate, and insightful support to those navigating difficult seasons of life.

John-Paul works collaboratively with clients to identify unhelpful thought patterns, regulate emotional responses, and develop healthier behavioural patterns. His work focuses on restoring a sense of stability, direction, and internal resilience.

In addition, John-Paul supports individuals dealing with substance use and addictive behaviours. He focuses on identifying underlying drivers, interrupting destructive cycles, and establishing practical strategies for long-term change. His approach is direct, nonjudgmental, and oriented toward meaningful, sustainable progress.

John-Paul also provides couples counselling, helping partners improve communication, resolve conflict, and rebuild trust. He works to clarify relational dynamics, reduce reactivity, and foster more constructive patterns of interaction, with the goal of strengthening the relationship over time.

John-Paul also provides spiritually integrated Christian counselling for clients of faith who seek to draw upon their beliefs, scripture, and prayer as supportive towards their mental health.

John-Paul’s overall aim is to help clients regain a sense of agency, purpose, and forward movement in their lives. He looks forward to meeting with you and embarking alongside you in your journey towards positive change, acceptance, and personal growth.
